Prior to coming to GSE I worked at in public health for a research center whose mission was to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities. Many of the projects focused on making health care more accessible to non-English speaking populations. It was really inspiring to hear the stories of recently immigrated families. I am still amazed at the courage it must take to navigate a new place and a new language. I decided that I wanted to go into education and work primarily with the English language learners.
On top of class and field work, I am a GA in a freshman dorm. To say that moving back into the dorms after being out of college for a couple of years has been an experience, would be an understatement. Living with primarily 18 year olds has a way of making me feel incredibly old (they leave for parties as I am getting ready for bed) and remarkably young (I have 25 fashion advisers).
So if you have any questions about TESOL, residential life as a graduate student, or Philadelphia, feel free to holla!
